Rotator cuff repair

Here is my story

  • I still have pain with the following movements
  • Sleeping on my side
  • My usual strength exercises in the gym
  • Reaching up behind my back to wash it
  • Doing overhead movements – getting ‘stuff’ off the top shelf
  • My arm still feels very weak

Their assessment

  • My Biodex test revealed that my external rotators were very weak compared to my healthy arm. It was weaker for both the strength and endurance tests performed
  • My neck did not rotate sufficiently to the left side (the side the op was done on).
  • I had very tight pec muscles on both sides

Their plan of action for me

  • I had to stretch my neck only to the left side – this would improve muscle firing in my left shoulder
  • I had to stretch and release my pec muscles (with a tennis ball).
  • They gave me a stretchy band and I had to do various shoulder “external” rotating exercises to improve my weaknesses.
  • I had to stop doing internal rotation exercises as these were tested sufficient in the Biodex test
